- I am a 57 year old mother of two and grandmother of three. I was diagnosed with Colon Cancer in the summer of 2007. This blog charts my struggle with the illness and my attempts to need a normal life. My Memoir Fifty/50 was published in June and can be ordered direct from silverwoodbooks.co.uk. It outlines my East End childhood in the 50s and 60s as well as my current efforts to survive this devastating disease. In my spare time I play guitar, paint, read and write. I am also a keen cyclist and enjoy the outdoors. I love swimming in the sea.

It was her obvious love for her family but most especially her little granddaughters which originally moved me to email Lin. As a fellow grandmother I related to that and I enjoyed our exchanges so much.

Your legacy, Lin, is two amazing children and three adorable granddaughters plus the lives of countless people made sweeter by your wisdom and courage. May your memory be a blessing for all who have had the privilege to have known you.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a real privilege to get to know Lin and she was a real inspiration to us all in our battle against cancer. I was touched by her positive attitude, sense of humour and wisdom. I can only wonder at her determination which allowed us to meet for that precious time in London.Thankyou Chris in supporting her to do that.

ReplyDeletei am so glad that the end was peacful for lin - that was what she wanted, although i wish she'd had more time with us first.
i once said to her i think heaven is when people you leave behind remember yuo well and with love so you live on in their memories. i am sure this is true of lin.
she inspired and counselled me even when she wasnt well herself and gave me hope. i feel so privalged to have met her and that she called me 'sis'. i know she is waitng for me.

ReplyDeletewe are so sad to have missed the chance to see Lin still alive with all her cheerfulness, humour and wisdom. We thought she had much more time. As the funeral is already tomorrow, there is even no chance for us, to say good-bye to Lin together with you. But we will be with you all in our thoughts.
We will send you a personal, private letter with our thoughts. Lin was a wonderful friend for 41 years!

Really sorry to hear your sad news. I was only lucky enough to know Lin through the TES, where she will be missed greatly. I always found her to be lovely, genuine and kind. She is one of the few people I can say I have never heard say a bad word about another person.

So sorry to hear this sad news! Mercifully, as Lin herself said, she did not know how close she was to passing. This hopefully meant she did not suffer?
